management by consensus

the powerful advantage of managing by consensus is that it is based on consent, what people can consent to, rather than being based on a division of the group on opposite sides of a question.

the approach is different. management by consensus involves the group in a process in which each person's view is heard, and respected. there's discussion toward achieving the objectives of the group. the group will naturally come to some agreement about strategy, and so on.

small groups tend to deal with most things in a consensual way, discussing the issue, coming to an agreement. "it was decided..."

so we're all familiar with consensus: an agreement that's not necessarily what each person wanted, but is what all the people are willing to agree to. what "makes sense".
